Athletic and Intramural Programs

Woodward Academy offers an extensive athletic and intramural program that gives all students the opportunity for sports involvement and physical education. The Academy is a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association allowing participation in junior varsity and varsity sports against other high schools in the state of Iowa. Woodward Academy is currently participating in cross country, football, basketball, track and field, powerlifting, and baseball. The students have seen great success in these sports with an individual state track champion, football playoff participation, state team qualification in cross country, and four straight national championships in powerlifting. The intramural programs include all sports activities as well as life skills type experiences. In addition to sports, the students are given the opportunity to participate in gardening, landscaping, photography, poetry, dance classes, woodworking, small engine repairs, and world of work.
