WHAT IS WOODWARD ACADEMY DAY SCHOOL

Woodward Academy Day School serves male and female students in grades 6 to 12 who are experiencing behavioral difficulty in the public-school setting. Located in Woodward, Iowa, the program focuses on behavioral and cognitive change through the use of a trauma-informed culture. Our mission is to provide a safe and structured environment.

REFERRAL PROCESS

The first step in referring a student to Woodward Academy Day School is to contact Woodward Academy directly. Referrals can be made to the Day School at any point throughout the year. Once initial contact has been made, a meeting will be set up to interview the student. This meeting will be used to determine whether the student is appropriate for the program and to discuss student expectations at the school.

MEETING

An interview meeting often occurs within days of initial contact with the Day School. Students, parents, and school officials are welcome to tour the days school at this time and the interview can be held in conjunction with this tour. For special education students, an IEP meeting needs to be held by the home school district. At this time, a change in placement may be made. Specific questions regarding Day School policies can also be answered at this time.

ENROLLMENT

Enrollment for eligible students can begin immediately. The home school district will need to send accurate transcripts and the student will be placed in classes most appropriate for their academic standing. The sending district will also be responsible for transporting the student to and from the Day School on a daily basis.

WOODWARD ACADEMY PHILOSOPHY

The goal of Woodward Academy Day School is to help youth make better choices in their life and earn an education. One way in which we do that is through the establishment of a positive learning environment. Student expectations, which are established continually, are at the heart of our philosophy. The consistent monitoring of these expectations challenges students to have positive educational experiences. The ultimate goal is for students to build healthy habits to use throughout their life.
