Shawn Hollenkamp started his career at Woodward Academy in 2002 as a youth counselor after graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Child and Family Services. He has held many positions on campus including operating the daily shifts in a Group Leader role, and supervising a dorm as Program Director. In 2006, Shawn was promoted to Group Living Director, a position he held until 2013 when he was once again promoted to Executive Director of Woodward Community Based Services. He returned to Woodward Academy’s campus in 2016 when he accepted the position of Executive Director.
Guthrey Fritz started his career as a Youth Counselor at Woodward Academy in 1997, after graduating from Buena Vista University with a degree in Criminal Justice. Since then, he has held several roles in his sixteen years at Woodward, including Youth Counselor, Training Officer/Admissions Assistant and Program Director and has experience in all three of the Academy’s programs. Mr. Fritz has been Head Coach for the Woodward Academy Powerlifting team since 2003 and holds 8 National Championship titles. In June 2013, Mr. Fritz became the Woodward Academy Director of Admissions.
Mr. Fleshner began his career at Woodward Academy in February of 2004. Trent came to Woodward Academy after receiving his B.S. in Criminology from the University of Northern Iowa. Mr. Fleshner has held many positions at Woodward Academy including Youth Counselor, Group Leader, and Program Director. In January 2013 he took over as Group Living Director.
Mr. Moses began his career at Clarinda Academy in 1992. He started by working with youth in residential treatment as a youth counselor and was promoted to Senior Counselor and Team leader. In 1994, Mr. Moses transferred to Forest Ridge, a 141-bed girls facility as the training manager. He has provided training and consulting assistance at a variety of residential treatment facilities during the past 10 years.
Mrs. Dodds began working at Woodward Academy in September 1996. After three years of service she was promoted to her current position as Human Resources Director. Her years of service have made her knowledgeable in various areas of the administration office.
Tonna Lawrenson came to Woodward Academy in 2001 and is currently the Clinical Director. She oversees the clinical aspects of WA’s programming, supervising case managers, a clinical team of remedial individual and family counselors, therapists, and an outpatient mental health site. In 1996, she enrolled in Emporia State University in Kansas where she received her Master’s of Science degree in Clinical Art Therapy. While in school, she worked an extensive clinical rotation including the most challenging setting of her professional life; working in the Kansas hospice program as a therapist who helped prepare adolescents who were going through the dying process. After school and prior to arriving at WA, Lawrenson worked in a battered women’s shelter and at Beloit Residential Treatment Center for children in Ames, Iowa. Over the past 17 years, Tonna has proven to be a largely valuable resource for Woodward Academy.
