State Tournament Qualifiers (’15) // Dallas Jackson leads state in rebounds (’13) // 4 All-State Players // The Best Student Section in the State

Head Coach: Dustin Sperling

Since 2008, Woodward Academy has produced All-State players and some standout performances on the basketball court. They also have had the best student body section in the conference who creates havoc for opposing teams playing the Knights. With chants like K-N-I-G-H-T-S and D-Fence!, the cheering section is “the sixth man” on the floor, often propelling the Knights to better play and being a distraction for the opponents.

The highlight of the program came in 2015 when the Knights qualified for the Iowa High School State basketball tournament and made headlines for all the right reasons when they competed at Wells Fargo Arena. The road to State required the Knights to overcome a 16 point deficit at districts, and to outscore their sub-state opponent 21-0 in the 4th quarter. They are still the only residential facility to ever qualify for state tournament in Iowa, and it remains one of the most memorable moments in school history.
